Jasper H. Goodrich diary, 1861, 1865 [microform].

The collection consists of a diary of Jasper H. Goodrich for 1861, while he was serving in the 1st Georgia Infantry Regiment in Augusta (Ga.) during the Civil War. The entries describe Confederate troops moving through Augusta, war events, and his personal financial accounts. The diary also contains a copy of William T. Sherman's 1865 order for the suspension of hostilities.

Jasper H. Goodrich lived in Augusta, Georgia prior to the Civil War. He probably joined the 1st Georgia Infantry Regiment, a unit which existed from 1861-1862. In April 1862, most of the Regiment's companies were absorbed into Company A of the 12th Battalion, Georgia Light Artillery. In November 1862, Company A was transferred to the 13th Battalion, Georgia Infantry which later became known as the 63rd Georgia Infantry Regiment. From the description of Jasper H.
